Holiday Shop – Top 6 Wines to gift for the holidays

November 20, 2016

Some might think it’s still too early to start holiday shopping, but why not get your shopping done early and then sit down and relax with a nice glass of wine? We’ve made your holiday shopping list easier with 6 wines to gift for the holidays. And guess what? They are all under 25 € (26USD) (35CAD). This makes for a unique and exclusive gift.

If you can’t find these wines in your local enoteca, try looking at various online wine shops and ordering straight to your door.

For the “green” person

Pietra Bianca Castel del Monte – This Italian white from the region of Puglia, stays 5 months in barrels made of French and Hungarian oak, and then is refined for 6 months in bottles. Pairs great with roasted meat, seasoned cheeses and spicy soups. The best thing about this wine is that it’s certified organic!

For the artist

Carlo Haunter Salina Rosso. This fruity and warm red from Sicily doesn’t just taste great, but the artistic label that comes in various versions with different designs will appeal to the art lover on your holiday list.  The grapes grow in volcanic soil giving this wine unique acidic, but fresh, and persistent flavours that will warm anyone up this winter.

For the fancy pants

Borgo Maragliano – This is an Italian spumante, metodo classico, blanc de blancs. Can it sound any fancier? It’s a great quality spumante, especially for the price. This wine looks best served in nice champagne flutes, garnished with a couple frozen raspberries or strawberries.

For the meat lover

Rioja – This Spanish red wine is bold yet smooth, and it’s quite unique. It comes from the very south of Spain where the grapes grow in valleys full of sand. As one of Spain’s most renowned red wines, it pairs really well with any meaty dish, especially pork or beef. We loved Ontañon Arteso Tempranillo, Rioja.

For the explorer

Ok, this is a pretty exotic wine; a good Sherry pairs especially well with strong, hard cheeses or sweets. This wine is from the south of Spain, almost kissing Africa, and has a fermentation process that would BLOW YOUR MIND.  We suggest El Maestro Sierra Amontillado Vejez 12 Años.

For the sweet tooth

A Brut Rosè always pairs well with any type of sweets, like nice macaroons or cakes. Since it’s quite dry (being a Brut), it balances the sweet or tart flavours of fruit and candy, but you could opt for an even sweeter version like a sec or demi-sec for someone with an ultra sweet tooth. We love Allimant-Laugner Crémant d’Alsace Rosé, the colour is especially fun and festive for this holiday season.
